Directv and AT&T have reached an agreement where Directv will be sold to AT&T customers under as a co-branded television service. The move will allow AT&T to bundle satellite television services with its current phone and broadband services.

AT&T is planning to start selling the iPhone at 8:00 a.m. instead of last years 6:00 p.m. to better accommodate users. One major change is that all activation is going to be done in-store this time.

AT&T confirmed Tuesday that it will begin selling Apple's iPhone beginning July 11th for $199 for the 8 gig version and $299 for the 16 gig version. AT&T also stated that an activation charge of $18 to $36 would also be required. AT&T also announced plans to sell the iPhone without requiring a contract at later date at the price points of $599 and $699.

When the new 3G iPhone is released this summer, AT&T, may be looking to subside the phone cutting the price by as much as $200. According to sources, Apple will release two models one with 8 gigabytes of memory and the other with 16 gigabytes of memory priced at $399 and $499; however, if AT&T subsides the phones they may be purchased for $199 and $299.

AT&T reported a 22 percent increase in revenues mostly on increased sales of Apple's iPhone and savings from its 2006 BellSouth acquisition which eliminated roughly 10,000 jobs. Chief Financial Officer Rick Lindner stated that although it is widely known that Apple is releasing a new version of its iPhone in the coming months, demand for its current model has been quite stable.

AT&T reported on Friday that it plans to reduce its workforce by 1.5 percent nearly 4,600 jobs. AT&T reported that the positions are related to its wire-line telephone business in the U.S. and are part of its plans to streamline the company.

AT&T is planning to offer its mobile TV service starting in May. The service will initially only be offered on the LG Vu and Samsung Access and will feature a complete programming package including CBS, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fox, MTV, NBC, NBC News, and Nickelodeon. Beginning next month AT&T is raising its fees on its slowest three broadband tiers by $5 in all states except those that were acquired by the buyout of BellSouth. This comes just after one week after CEO, Randall Stephenson, reported weakness in its consumer broadband business due to disconnections for non-payment.

The Federal Communications Commission is working to quickly approve AT&T's purchase of $2.5 billion for privately owned wireless spectrum from Aloha Partners. AT&T has said that the Aloha airwaves could provide coverage to nearly 196 million customers across the U.S. The airways could eventually provide for faster mobile broadband access.

AT&T's shares dropped quickly Tuesday after CEO Randall Stephenson reported that the company is experience slower sales of its broadband and wired phone services. He reported that the majority of slow down is coming from service disconnections related to nonpayment. AT&T also reported that the company's wireless is on track and is not experiencing a slow down.

AT&T announced on Monday that the company plans to purchase more routers from Cisco to upgrade its Internet backbone network. AT&T reported that it plans to connect main networks hubs spanning 25 major cities with the new equipment in the next coming months. This represents a major win for Cisco who has been facing competition recently from rival network equipment producer, Juniper.

AT&T is planning on quickly phasing out its pay phone business by the end of 2008. AT&T reports that business has been rapidly shrinking and that the company is phasing out before the division becomes unprofitable. BellSouth, which AT&T acquired at the end of 2006 and Qwest Communications have both already left the pay phone business.

AT&T's CEO, Randall Stephenson, reported that Apple Inc. will introduce a 3G version of its iPhone next year allowing for much faster Internet speeds. They also mentioned that the company will need to work on increasing the battery life as current 3G chips currently are "real power hogs."

AT&T announced Tuesday a new mobile banking service for customers of SunTrust Banks and Wachovia Corp. The new service allows AT&T customers to fund transactions, pay bills, and view account balances all by using their cell phones. According to research analysts, by 2010, over 17 million households will use some form of mobile banking.

CEO, Randell Stephenson, reported Friday that he has not come up with a viable business model for utilizing the 700 MHz spectrum up for auction. AT&T was expected to be one of the top bidders in the FCC auction and AT&T may still bid in the auction; however, it is now unlikely that AT&T will be a major bidder in the auction.
