Nissan Motor Co. is making large scale cuts in its hiring and has decided to cut the number of new graduates it was planning to hire in 2010. This Spring Nissan hired nearly 500 new graduates.

Nissan is planning to produce 78,000 fewer cars in 2009 as the auto industry continues to suffer from lackluster sales. The company plans to implement one-day shutdowns at factories, slow down their current production lines, and layoff all of its 500 temporarily employees.

Chrsyler LLC has halted current negotiations with Nissan as Chrysler is hoping to strike a merger agreement with General Motors. Both Nissan and Chrysler have not ruled out future negotiations, but for now Chrysler has decided that an agreement with GM will be more financially favorable.

Nissan reported a 39 percent drop in its quarter earnings and issued a profit warning on Friday. The company joins the rest of the auto industry who have been hit hard by recent economic conditions. Nissan's Ghosn stated, "We see no relief in the second half."

Nissan reported that its sales in the first 10 days of October have been the worst in the company's history and that the company is planning for worst. The company did state that their Chinese sales grew by 40 percent in September; however, they are still taking a cautious outlook in that market expecting a slow down in China as well.

Nissan Motor company has been hit hard by economic conditions. The company reported a 37 percent drop in auto sales in the U.S. Nissan sold 59,565 vehicles in September significantly lower than 94,269 from the same month a year prior.

As South America is quickly becoming the next emerging market, Nissan is hoping to boost its earnings producing two new passenger cars in Brazil. Nissan Motors is planning to start selling cars, which will block drivers from accelerating too quickly. The new technology entitled "Eco Pedal" is being promoted as being green and safe and makes the gas pedal push upward when drivers are deemed as accelerating too quickly. Nissan announced plans to launch its first "clean diesel" SUV at G8. The new SUV is scheduled to start selling in Japan in October 2009. The new SUV can offer up to 30 percent higher gas mileage than its gasoline version. Nissan also announced plans to release a diesel version of its Nissan Maxima in the United States by 2010.

Nissan is next in a line of companies expanding its operations in China. Today Nissan announced plans to build a new plant in China in order to boost vehicle sales in one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The new plant located in Henan is expected to produce 120,000 light weight vehicles a year.

Nissan is warning its investors not to expect a rebound in auto sells in 2008. Nissan has not been able to meet its yearly sells in the U.S. in the last for months as economy conditions have deterred. Nissan is forecasting a 30 percent fall in net income on week economic conditions and the dollar significantly dropping compared to the yen.

Nissan, Renault, & Bajaj have agreed to create a joint venture company in order to penetrate the Indian marketplace. The new company will be 50 percent owned by Bajaj with the remaining 50 percent split equally between Renault and Nissan. The new company plans to develop a low-cost car model to market in India for a starting price of $2,500.

Nissan wants to show that it supports the environment even while not on the road. Nissan is set to show off all of its "green" features of its new headquarters. The company wants it to be a commit towards its focus on producing more environment friendly automobiles.
