Nasdaq OMX, who runs and operates the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, reported third quarter earnings of 28 cents a share 84 percent lower than its profit of $2.41 per share for the same quarter a year prior.

Major financial sites including Yahoo Finance have started to offer real-time stock quotes for its visitors. Nasdaq is also preparing to similar offer real-time stock quote services in Europe. With the changes now anyone with an Internet connection will be able to monitor stock prices in real-time as apposed to the normal 15 to 20 minute delay.

Bob Greifeld, CEO of Nasdaq, announced Thursday that it has no plans for any major acquisitions until middle 2009. Greifeld reported that the company is not looking for anymore acquisition until it fully gains the potential from its recent acquisitions of OMX AB, a Philadelphia and Boston Stock Exchange.

U.S. regulators have approved a deal that will give Dubai's stock-exchange a stake in Nasdaq. Under the agreement Dubai will receive part of Nasdaq's stake in the London Stock Exchange and a 19.9 percent stake in its U.S. exchange. The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. announced Friday that its market share was 30.3 percent for November. Trading volume reached 47.5 billion shares for November significantly higher then the 27.9 billion shares traded the previous year.

The Nasdaq Stock Exchange has reached an agreement to acquire the Philadelphia Stock Exchange for $652 million in cash. The acquisition will give Nasdaq an entrance to the fast-growing options market. The exchange sector as a whole has been aggressively consolidating in an attempt to boost marketshare and protect revenues amongst stiff competition from new electronic startups.

Nasdaq, the second largest equities market exchange in America, reported its plans to buy the Boston Stock Exchange for $61 million to expand its trading. The acquistion does not include the Boston Options Exchange, which currently has plans to sell a majority stake to Montreal Exchange Inc. MTI Technologies was officially delisted from Nasdaq today. The stock was originally suspended from trading on June 1, 2007 and has not traded on Nasdaq since.
